Curtis Rock Henry, aka Chef Rock, is the owner and Executive Chef of Chef Rock Enterprises, founded in 2009. Chef Rock's mission is driven to empower others to overcome life challenges through cooking.  He served in the United States Army for 36 years and retired at the rank of Colonel. He also retired from the State of Florida, Department of Juvenile, holding positions as Detention Supervisor, Probation Officer, Academy Instructor, and Courtroom Liaison.  Chef Rock is dedicated to harnessing his experience, education, professional networks, and spiritual values to give back to the community, which advanced him to where he is today.

Chef Rock co-resides in South Florida and Philadelphia, Pa. He is married to Kalena Armstrong-Henry – College Professor, and has two daughters: Synclair–26 – Owner of Synclair Event and Designs, and Sydney–23 – Electrician. He has a newborn grandson named Roman.

Chef Rock’s Education and Certificates


Chef Rock's military career began in 1982 at the age of 17. Then, Private Henry enlisted in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard as a Calvary Scout. In 1988, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant and attended the Chemical Officer Basic Course in Anniston, AL. He holds an Associated in Applied Science from Community College of Philadelphia, a Bachelor of Arts Degree – from Cheyney University, an MBA in Project Management – from Grantham University, a Master of Strategic Studies – from United States Army War College, Masters Certification in Hospitality Management – Cornell University, Graduate of the Institute of Culinary Education and Windows of the World Wine School in Manhattan, NYC, and currently earning a certification in Food Science at Harvard University.

Chef Rock’s Culinary Career

Chef Rock’s culinary aspiration began at an early age12 when his mother and grandmother sold brown-bag lunches to factory workers surrounding their home in Philadelphia. The profit from the sale of these soulful meals went directly to the support of the neighborhood’s Mt. Pleasant Holiness Church. From these humble beginnings, family values, and childhood hardships, Chef Rock's ongoing mission is to live a life of service to others. Chef Rock lived and experienced a plethora of cultures while living in the Republic of Korea, the Middle East, Canada, Europe, American Samoa, and the South Pacific Islands. Chef Rock worked with Food Network Chef Daisy Martinez in the production of Food University in Manhattan and appeared on set with “Life in Nancy’s Kitchen” in Pittsburgh, PA.

Chef Rock’s Community Involvement

Chef Rock is on the Board of Directors for the International Foodservice Executive Association. He is also a member of the Culinary Institute of America, National Restaurant Association, Omega Phi Phi Fraternity, Volunteer- AMI Kids of Greater Fort Lauderdale, Prince Hall Masonry, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a host of Veteran’s Organizations.
